Badiula

Our Story

Roots that become the future

From the Land to a Vision

Badiula was born in the heart of the Syracuse countryside, where the story of our family intertwines with the story of the land itself.
For four generations, we have been farmers, descending from a long tradition of sharecroppers — men and women who built their lives through patience, sacrifice, and deep respect for the earth.

In the 1970s, Salvatore, Giuseppe, and Salvatore Di Giorgio — two brothers and a cousin — decided to transform that farming heritage into a life project: restoring value to the Badiula district, then entirely agricultural land, and turning it into a place where the earth could continue to generate beauty and future.

At the beginning, the estate consisted of around twenty hectares dedicated to the cultivation of blood oranges. Over time, thanks to the family’s passion and dedication, the land expanded and diversified with lemon groves, olive trees, bergamot, and lime plantations, following a philosophy of respectful and sustainable agriculture.

The Birth of the Agriturismo

With the second generation — represented by Giuseppe, Alfio, Salvatore, and Alfio Di Giorgio — Badiula embarked on a new journey.
In 2000, the restoration of an ancient rural complex overlooking a river began, giving life to the idea of combining the agricultural soul of the estate with authentic hospitality, creating an agriturismo capable of telling the story of the true Sicily.

In 2005, Badiula opened its doors with just eight rooms.
Today, Badiula is a consortium offering 33 rooms, a restaurant, conference facilities, and a wellness centre, while remaining faithful to the same philosophy: a place that welcomes with sincerity, where elegance is made of simplicity and luxury is measured through human details.

Our crops are organic and certified, and the estate is part of both the Sicilian Citrus Production District and the Blood Orange PGI Protection Consortium.
Through the project “Le Vie della Zagara” (“The Routes of Orange Blossom”), we have combined agriculture, culture, and sustainable tourism into a development model that respects both the land and the local community.

The Third Generation

In 2019, Giuseppe, Salvatore, and Lorenza Di Giorgio — the third generation — joined the second generation, bringing a fresh vision while remaining deeply rooted in the same values.

They are responsible for the latest phase of Badiula’s evolution: the creation of the suites with private jacuzzis, the modernisation of the facilities, and a path of digital innovation and sustainability that projects Badiula into the future.

But their greatest strength lies in one simple choice: staying.
At a time when many leave, they chose to remain here, on their land, to continue a dream that began among the rows of citrus trees.
They believe that true innovation means cultivating one’s roots and transforming tradition into the future.
“We are the story of those who chose to stay.
Of those who transform tradition into promise, and the land into the future.”

Philosophy & Values

We believe in a slow, respectful, and authentic form of tourism.
In hospitality born from a smile, in wellbeing found in small gestures, in the luxury of rediscovered time.
Every experience — from waking up in your room to sunsets among the citrus groves — is an invitation to slow down, breathe nature, and feel at home.
We believe in the beauty of simple things, in slow living, and in hospitality shaped by sincere gestures.
Every guest is welcomed as part of our family; every corner of the estate reflects our deep connection with the land.

Choosing Badiula means choosing an experience that goes beyond a stay:
it means breathing authentic Sicily, living in harmony with nature, and rediscovering wellbeing in a perfect balance between past and present.
Badiula is an authentic refuge that carries within it the sincerest soul of Sicily.

OUR

VISION

At Badiula, sustainability and culture intertwine like branches of the same tree.
Every decision, every project, every experience is born from the desire to leave a light footprint and a meaningful legacy.

We believe the future of hospitality is built on authenticity, respect, and conscious beauty.
A future where hospitality venues do not consume the land, but protect it; where people do not simply visit a place, but truly understand it and feel connected to it.

This is Badiula:
a refuge of slow and sincere living, where nature meets culture, where innovation grows from respect for tradition, and where hospitality is first and foremost an act of care — for the land, for others, and for time itself.
